An independent, politically impartial worldwide movement, Amnesty International across the globe works to both promote and to defend human rights around the world.

Peace Brigades International

PBI is an international non-government organisation working for the non-violent transformation of conflicts through teams which work with grass roots organisations, world-wide, to provide protective accompaniment as activists go about their work, and to provide peace education to strengthen the work of local civil society organisations.  PBI has country groups in Australia, Aotearoa/New Zealand, Belgium, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spanish State, Sweden, Switzerland, and the USA.

From the 1950s to the 1970s one fifth of Tibet's population died after China invaded Tibet in 1949, illegally annexing it as part of China.  China did not uphold  several early U.N. Resolutions calling for an end to the violence.  In 1987 the Dalai Lama (exiled to India in 1959) made up a Five Point Peace Plan which was approved internationally, but rejected by China.  Since then pressure tactics by China have thwarted international attempts to persuade China to implement the Plan.
