About Me

Chew Yarn / Autumn Swallow

Saluton. That means "hello" in Esperanto, the international language.  I was born Mary Celine Lai Chew Yarn in Penang, Malaya on 14th September 1963.   My surname is Lai which is pronounced LIE.  My Chinese common name (or first name equivalent to the Christian name) to call me by consists of two parts, Chew Yarn.  In the Chinese language, Chew Yarn  translates to, or means Autumn Swallow.  I was also given the Anglo-Saxon first names of Mary Celine.  You can think of me as Chew Yarn or Autumn Swallow or Céline, whichever appeals to you.   When I was a baby, my birth parents did not have the material means to support all of their children, so they gave permission for me  to be inter-country adopted. At fifteen months of age, I came to Western Australia, and was formally adopted at age three into an English-Australian family. Despite some problems in my earlier life, such as racism, I believe that I have learnt certain values from my adoptive parents, which I have tried to apply. These values are to count my blessings and to genuinely care about others.  I am a quadruple Virgo (four planets in Virgo), with Scorpio rising, and I was born in the Year of the Water Rabbit and am a Yellow Galactic Seed.

My workforce experience has been as a clerical administrative officer in the Public Service, including both the Australian and the Western Australian Public Service.  At Secondary School, I was awarded Honour Certificates for Typing, History and English Literature.  In my final year of Secondary  School (High School), I achieved an index of academic standing of 96.  This meant that I was in the top 5th percentile of students throughout W.A. (i.e. one of the top 5% of students for that year and grade, but not one of the top 4%).   I enjoy studying and have completed a Bachelor of Applied Science degree (in Biology), a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Research and Evaluation, and a Certificate 4 in Business (Record keeping).  I have tried secondary school teaching (having won a scholarship to do so).  My research projects included looking at the carbohydrate preferences of the brown honey-eater (Lichmera Indistincta); surveying the fauna and flora of the Perup forest;  surveying the attitude of  people toward high speed police pursuits and their knowledge of the facts involved; and researching the conditions and uses of natural environmental places listed on the Register of the National Estate.

I currently work in the Public Service, carrying out general administrative tasks.  I live with my long term boy-friend and our adopted cat, Shandy, whom adopted us on 31 December 1999, to usher in the new millennium.  Click here for my Aura portrait channelled in early 2008 by Spirit of Mirium.  A friend told me that it shows the presence of Lady / Mother Mary with me.   Click here for my Animal Totem reading.

My concept of peace is "freedom from violence, hand-in-hand with creativity,

meeting the basic needs of all people in the world, and care of our environment."

Peace in practice generates happiness, satisfaction and joy, harmony with our environment

and a beautiful world to live in.

My Interests

My personal interests are reading, writing, communication, languages, Jungian dream analysis, and divination methods (such as the Chinese "I Ching", pronounced "Ye Jing", the Tarot and the Luscher Color Test). Also, I am concerned with understanding human nature, and with making the world a much better place. I have undertaken an extensive range of voluntary welfare work, including giving respite care on a holiday camp, which was run by an organisation which looks after disabled children, shaking tins for various street appeals, and working as a volunteer Adult Literacy Tutor for the Ministry of Education.  I used to enjoy drawing from real life.  Click here for some examples of my early drawings.

My Values and Desires

I believe that the unique experiences I have had as an inter-country adoptee (being adopted and of a different race to the family I was adopted into) merges or coalesces with many factors, such as the country and time into which I was adopted and my own personal, unique spiritual identity, to produce my own unique insights into the human condition. For example, as an adoptee, in the past, I have felt some loss of identity, which I now contemplate as a need for belonging which wasn't met through my adoption experience. The sense of confusion and loneliness which I had (but which I still quite remember, although I don't feel it now) is one which I can share with people who have had, or have, this same feeling of loss (through adoption of any sort, or through any other "outer" experiences which have produced the same feeling).

This is one way of explaining that I believe that how I think and feel now, and what I do now, can be attributed to a triad, i.e.

This triad, I believe, is a universal framework for the being of all humans. I believe that each person has some awareness of her or his own personal sphere of influences. If you, or people you know, are somewhat un-happy, or feel a lack of meaning in Life, then I think that the personal sphere is an excellent starting place for "re-molding" oneself. This " re-molding" will require an in-depth (or detailed) and honest analysis of how one's personal experiences have affected one's own true characteristics or traits, as well as an outlining of one's needs which have not been met, and of one's personal values (i.e. what is important to a person) and of one's desires (i.e. what someone wants).

I believe, from experience, that if the personal sphere is tackled rigorously (with professional help or added human support, if necessary) then, intuitively, it will lead to the right or correct relationships with (or understanding of) both one's shared sphere of influence and one's Spiritual Self. If you have already reached a level of self-reflection and self-change which you feel happy with, then be on the look out for further challenges to come across your path, which will require a re-assessment of your needs, values, desires and personal human strategies or techniques, to meet these challenges through further self-change.

I believe that while many people hope for peace and goodwill, they could do a lot more to be kind and understanding toward others on a daily basis, and to understand what is going on in the world, and take direct positive action.  This can be done through mental work or effort, as outlined above, and/or through either continual genuine prayer, or through continual petitioning (speaking) to their Spiritual Selves and Spirit Guides (parts of the Higher Spirit which inform and help us).

All of us are part of one inter-connected world with causes and effects.  On a practical note, it is my desire that all human beings, including myself, be conscientious and strive to do all that they can (and not just make half-hearted or pious attempts), to genuinely help and connect with people whom they meet with in their daily lives, and to further peace and justice, with restraint, all over our human world.

My view of our world is neither that it is inherently evil or inherently good.  Rather, I believe that it has inherent potential for people to uphold the principle of peace in practice, through self-knowledge, spiritual development, self-education, and direct action.  I have trust in a Higher Spirit that connects and cares for all of our Spiritual Selves. I believe that trusting in this Spirit of Peace and Goodwill will provide people with the Paths they need to follow in order to have meaningful lives.

Go in peace to live well in the World
