Audience is sprinkled |
like hundreds and thousands lollies |
on a grass green slice of bread. |
Silver flutes are silhouetted |
against silver points of stars. |
They test the velvet-lined |
upside-down bowl-shaped sky. |
The band strikes up….. |
Voices strum and swell |
to the trill of flutes |
then to the hum of guitars |
The crowd is like teased out tufts |
of coloured cotton buds. |
Audience drifts to Christmas tunes |
The band plays "We wish you a Merry Christmas". |
Angels coax notes from sleepy children |
Voices and music are lifted together |
in joyful symphony. |
Musical notes, children, angels |
all float sublime…..in deep-blue velvet sky |
The "edges of the bread" |
begin to shrink as the night deepens |
Suddenly |
the music stops. |
Musicians fold up their sheets. |
The audience become pin-points |
of light and stream through |
black silk handkerchief |
of night |
